mwbaPC Paintbrush File Formatcite-ref-murray662-1-0[1], meglio noto come mwcqPCX (da mwcgPiCture eXchangecite-ref-loc-2-0[2]) è un mwdwformato di file per le mweaimmagini bitmap. Creato da ZSoft, è il formato nativo di PC Paintbrush, anche noto come mweqMicrosoft mwegPaintbrushcite-ref-murray662-1-1[1], sviluppato come risposta al software per mwfwMS-DOS PCPaint di mwgqIBMcite-ref-loc-2-1[2].

Il PCX è un formato di immagine di tipo mwiqdevice independent (cioè indipendente dalla periferica e quindi non variante al variare dell'hardware sul quale viene riprodotto), mwigraster, e con una palette iniziale che andava da 2 a 4 colori, o da 16 a 256 colori. Successivamente il formato venne esteso per poter gestire anche immagini mwiwtruecolor, quindi con mwjaprofondità di colore di 24 mwjqbit.

Fu molto diffuso all'inizio dell'era dei personal computer, anche durante l'avvento dell'interfaccia grafica, attorno al mwka1985, con l'introduzione di mwkqMicrosoft Windows, ma venne gradatamente soppiantato da formati più evoluti come mwkgTIFF, mwkwTGA e mwlaJPEG.
